My passion for helping others with downsizing stems from my own experience. The reason I became a real estate agent is to assist people who need hands-on help with this transition.
After my mother passed away in 2008, my sisters and I had to dismantle my parents’ single family home in McLean. Because we all worked and had young children, the process of preparing the house for sale took a long time.
First, it took about a year to remove my parents’ belongings because we only had weekends. Next, we hired a contractor to repair what had been neglected and to upgrade the property so it would sell. We did not know where to look for help. In 2008, there were not as many businesses and contractors that focused on helping with downsizing and there was a recession. We finally sold the house in 2010!
In a perfect world, planning a move in 2 to 5 years gives you time declutter, donate and making repairs. This includes figuring out where you want to live and coming to terms with making a new start. Realistically, you may not have all that time. Often, downsizing needs to happen more quickly. I am here to help you with your individual situation!
Over the years, I have compiled a list of contractors committed to helping in this process:
- Take down a swing set
- Take unwanted silver and melt it down for cash
- Where to sell high-end items
- How to hold an estate sale
And more… I also have a list of organizers that can help sort out your possessions. If you need a financial planner or an estate attorney, I can help with that too.
